THE BENEFITS OF GOING WITH GOD

Bible Text: Psalms 46:1-7
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her; she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Today’s text succinctly summarizes the role of the supernatural in the affairs of man. As humans, we reach points in the journey of life when we are helpless and incapacitated. By nature, we are limited, but God is unlimited. Where man’s strength fails, God steps in. That is why, in this text, He is described as not only our refuge and strength but also an ever-present help in trouble. From this perspective, we understand that the primary purpose of getting along with God is to attract His help.

Going with God has significant benefits. The Bible is full of examples of cases where people journeyed with God and experienced testimonies. One such example is the case of the Israelites at the Red Sea. This experience teaches us that when people go with God, the Red Sea parts, and they advance to their land of destiny. At the Red Sea, the presence of God made a difference. When you go with God, roadblocks are dismantled, and obstacles are removed.

Another notable example is the story of David and Goliath. It was obvious that David could not have felled the great giant except for the presence of God. When God is involved in any battle, the outcome is already determined from the beginning. This story teaches us that when God is involved, victory is assured. As the psalmist says in Psalms 68:1-2:

“Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.”

In addition to the above is the story of Simon Peter’s all-night fruitless endeavour. The Bible records in Luke 5:1-7 how he toiled all night and recorded complete failure. However, when God stepped into his boat, he experienced a breakthrough unlike anything he had ever seen as a professional fisherman.

Beloved of God, those who journey through life with God can never be stranded. He is the Alpha and the Omega; He sees the end from the beginning. As you navigate the path of this new year, go with God. Involve Him in your relationships, career, business, academics, and every aspect of your life.
