Societies
Societies Yaba Baptist Church currently has 26 church societies. Like minded male and female members come together to form church societies to further deepen the existing Christian relationships at a micro level. These societies partner with the church in her evangelical, spiritual, and charitable activities. The societies during their annual anniversaries partner with the church financially to carry out the various projects of the church. These societies warmly welcome everyone willing to join them and contribute to the development of the body of Christ at Yaba Baptist Church. The existing societies are listed as follows:
The Society was founded in November 1957 with the main Objective of Promotion of love and imitating Christ in words and deeds. This society otherwise known as “EWE NLA”, is mainly composed of the elderly members of the church, with a number of its younger members being added to their ranks. Because of their wealth of experience which goes with age the society has produced Chairmen of Church development Committees over many years (1980 to 1999) who directed the affairs of the construction of our present complex Church building. The society raised funds within one month in 1980 to purchase an electronic organ which the Church was in dire need of, then.
Anniversary day is last Sunday in November
The Christian Fellowship of Yaba Baptist Church was established in September 1967 with only seven members as founding members. The society has grown from strength to strength over the years and with her present membership strength, the Fellowship has always played a prominent role and contributed in no small measure in various church activities such as Evangelism, Baptism and the Church Multipurpose Building project just to mention a few.
The Society’s annual anniversary comes up on the last Sunday of September and the monthly meeting holds every last Sunday of the month.
It was in 1980 that the idea of establishing another all-ladies society in the church was first made but the idea came up again in 1981 for serious consideration during the Easter Picnic of Youth for Christ Society.
The two ladies who were originators of the idea went all out to convince and seek support of other married ladies by explaining the spiritual importance and benefit derivable from the establishment of such society in the Church. In bringing the Society into existence the first meeting was called and took place at the Church premises on Sunday, 28th July, 1981 and was attended by eight ladies.
After much deliberation by members, a consensus was reached that the Society should bear the kind of name that has affinity with the spiritual and social objectives adopted by the Youth for Christ Society thus the name CHRISTIAN LADIES’ AUXILIARY and their motto, “Work and Prayer” was unanimously adopted.
The Christian progressive Circle was founded early in 1974 and inaugurated in the Church on the 5th October, 1974. We fellowship in prayer with one another every Sunday within the Church premises called the “CORNER”
